Gary has had a stellar start to the 2016 European Senior Tour season which has included narrowly missing out on the Acorn Jersey Open title, losing in a three way play-off to eventual champion Gordon Manson and then following this up with a tied 5th finish at the Swiss Seniors Open from Bad Ragaz. Gary’s latest result, a tie for 21st in Germany at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open has elevated the Carus Green Golf Club professional to a season high 11th on the Order Of Merit and into a strong position to earn his full playing rights for 2017.
However the biggest event of the season is now just around the corner for Gary and will be pivotal in his quest to earn a top 20 spot on the eventual season ending Order of Merit. The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex is this year to be held at Carnoustie, scene of ‘that’ finish in the 1999 Open Championship where Jean Van De Velde handed the title to Scotland’s Paul Lawrie.
This event will mark Gary’s 6th straight appearance at the Senior Open and with him being on such a good run of form, expect him to surpass his best ever finish which was a tie for 11th place in 2013.
Gary gets his round underway on Thursday 21st July at 14.40 from the first tee at Carnoustie alongside Steen Tinning and Willie Wood.
You can watch action from Carnoustie throughout the week on Sky Sports and also follow all the live scoring from The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex through the European Senior Tour website at www.europeantour.com/seniortour
Good luck Gary!
