After the first event of the full European Senior Tour season, the SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open last week at the magnificent Celtic Manor, on the Roman Road course, Gary is back in professional action this week ahead of the Acorn Jersey Open.
Despite difficult weather conditions and a course that offered a lot of obstacles to all the competitors, Gary’s form shone through and in spite of a disappointing out of character six over par first round, Gary fired back with a second round of three under par before a final level par round saw him finish in a tie for ninth place overall. All in all this was a strong week for Gary and elevated him to 20th position on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit.
Onto this week, and the inaugural Acorn Jersey Open, Gary heads to La Moye Golf Club for his second European Senior Tour event of the year. Whilst the European Senior Tour has a long and prosperous history with Jersey having hosted a tournament there since 1996, there hasn’t been an event hosted on the Sunshine Island since 2010.
The course which measures just over 6,000 yards is well suited for Gary’s accurate iron and sublime short game skills. As a three time winner on tour Gary certainly knows where the finish line is and will be looking to lift his next title in Jersey this week.
All of Gary’s sponsors including Galvin Green, Titleist, Footjoy, Farmfoods, Carus Green Golf Club, Tilley, Miura and Champions of Golf wish him well in Jersey.
