Gary’s 2018 season kicked off in sunny Portugal this year for the 6th Algarvian Invitational at the Pinheiros Altos Golf Spa & Hotel. 

After shooting a fantastic first-round score of 69, Gary found himself 3 under par tied and second with fellow Staysure competitor Miguel Angel Martin. Day two saw Gary continue his first-round form hitting 70, leaving him 5 under and 3 shots off leader José Manuel Carriles Corino.

Rounds three and four proved more of a struggle for Gary as he shot 78, and 76 finishing up tied 18th on 5 over. As frustrating as the final two days were for Gary, a top twenty finish in his first event of the season in a field peppered with Staysure Tour professionals is a solid start and will give him something to build on over the coming year.

Eventual winner José Manuel Carriles Corino finished thirteen under after a stellar four rounds of golf and proved a worthy winner after taking the 6th Algarvian Invitational title by 4 shots.

Gary is next in action at the Monte Rei Winner Classic on the 22nd January.
