The next stop on the European Senior Tour calendar is Sunningdale for the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.
Following three top 20 finishes on the Senior Tour this calendar year not to mention being a three time winner, Gary headed to Sunningdale, one of his favourite courses for the second senior major appearance of his season. A disappointing missed cut in May at the US Senior PGA Championships was his first outing but a week later he was 9th at the SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open boosting his European Order of Merit significantly.
This was followed up with a 12th place in the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship and a 19th place finish at the Swiss Seniors Open. Gary has fond memories of playing at Sunningdale having competed there so much in the Sunningdale Foursomes event as well as so much throughout his long and illustrious career as an amateur in which time he accumulated over 218 caps for England and won 4 Walker Cup for Great Britain and Ireland.
The four day event is due to begin on Thursday 23rd July however with some severe weather forecast a Monday finish like we have experienced this week at St Andrews is not out of the question!
As always all of Gary’s sponsors and everyone at Champions wish him well for the Senior Open.
