With little on the European Senior Tour schedule until June, playing opportunities have been scarce for the Seniors, however as always Gary has been keen to keep his eye in and gain some valuable game time on the course with a card in his hand, maintaining his competitive edge, his latest adventure took him to Portugal to play some of the best courses on the Algarve with members from his home club Carus Green.
The first event on the PGA North Pro-Am schedule was the IDS Golf Overseas Pro-Am, despite very difficult weather conditions including unseasonably strong winds, Gary put in a strong performance finishing in a tie for fourth place. The second week was far more successful for Gary, as defending champions from 2015 his team from Carus returned for the GW Insurance Overseas Pro-Am. Gary eventually finished only a shot adrift of the winner on seven under par, having scored well in the better weather, with rounds of 69, 68, 73 and a closing 72. Annoyingly however the Pro-Am team competition came down to a tie for first place and the defending champions couldn’t quite cling onto the trophy as the lost on countback on the back 6 holes!!!!
Gary has now returned to Britain and is looking at having a reasonably busy March with speaking jobs, golf days and sponsor engagements so again the diary is keeping him busy!
