Gary Makes Debut in UAE

The European Senior Tour swings back into action in the UAE this week. The Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq, held at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club from March 16th -18th, is the first of the 2017 tour season and also the first time a European Senior Tour event has been played on a nine hole golf course. The course will be played twice on each tournament day with different tees being used throughout the week. The event also marks the tours return to the UAE for the first time since 2000, so a completely new destination for Gary on the European Senior Tour.

A strong field, including all of last years top 20 on the Order of Merit, has flown to Sharjah this week. The 57 man field will all battle it out for a share of the €400,000 prize fund with the winner taking home nearly €60,000.

Gary will be looking to follow on from the promising form shown in Portugal earlier in the year, which saw him finish 2nd in the PGA North Overseas Pro-Am, and has given himself every chance to replicate the success. Having headed to Dubai more than a week in advance of the event Gary has been able to take advantage of not only the favourable weather but also the outstanding facilities on offer at Jumeirah Golf Estates where he played on the Earth and Fire courses as well as practicing on floodlit golf ranges and short game areas.

Along with the early preparation Gary will also compete in the Wednesday Pro-Am tournament giving him one last chance to play the course before he tees of at 11:40am local time on Thursday morning (07.40am UK time) alongside ex-Ryder cup players Costantino Rocca and Philip Walton.

Good luck Gary!
