This week sees the European Senior Tour head to Holland for the penultimate event on this season schedule and only the second hosting of the newly named Dutch Senior Open. First reincarnated in 2013 from the Van Lanschot Senior Open, which it had been titled for the previous three years, the loss of its main sponsor prompted the change in name and change of venue.

Now hosted at The International, just a driver and long iron from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, the course, designed by Masters Champion Ian Woosnam and only opened in 2012, the undulating and exposed par 73 course measures 6966 yards and played normally in wet weather, it will be one of the longest tracks on the schedule this season.

One of the key features of the course is position off the tee, like so many courses getting the ball in play is critical however with the shape and size of the difficult greens it will be difficult to score hitting approach shots from anywhere other than the cut grass. This is something that should benefit Gary who, whilst he isn’t the longest on tour, is definitely one of the most accurate which should be a perfect attribute to have his armoury this week. Coupled with a very strong performance last week at the French Riviera Masters where Gary, on a course that he felt equally didn’t suit him, finished 6th, his highest placement of the season, elevating him to 23rd on the European Senior Tour Order of Merit.

Gary begins round one on Friday 10th October playing alongside Jerry Bruner teeing off at 09.40 (08.40am UK time). He also partners Jerry for the second round beginning at 11.00 (10.00am UK time).
