It hasn’t happened too many times in the 2015 European Senior Tour season but this week the tour head to Woburn for the second tournament in as many weeks following the conclusion of the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open at Archerfield last week. This week however, one of the players’ favourite venues, Woburn Golf Club and the Dukes course, play host to us and the Travis Perkins Masters.
The inaugural hosting of the Scottish Seniors event at Archerfield was a great success and eventually the title was won by Gary’s fellow Champions of Golf professional and tour newcomer, Paul Broadhurst. However Gary played well getting steadily better as the week progressed and with scores of 74-73 and 72 he finished in a tie for 17th position boosting his hopes of finishing inside the top 25 on the final Order of Merit with three events to go this year. He also met a few famous faces along the way promoting the great work of the cancer charity including, Ian Botham and Ray Clemence (pictured above).
Now Gary has firmly moved his attention to the new challenge that faces him at Woburn. Now one of the most familiar faces on the tour Gary has been a consistent performer at most venues on the European Senior Tour and Woburn is no different. In the 5 years he has played the tournament Gary has had multiple top 5 finishes the highlight being a third place finish in 2010 eventually finishing just four strokes behind the winner Des Smyth.
The tight tree lined fairways, undulating greens and small greens suit Gary’s eye and with the added incentive of an Order of Merit boost on the back of a good result, he will be pulling out all the stops to have a successful week.
As always Champions of Golf and all of Gary’s sponsors wish him the best of luck for this week at Woburn and the remainder of the European Senior Tour season.
